Jersey Boys

I woke up yesterday morning with an urge to see a musical. Perhaps it’s the realization that my time in London is coming to an end that has made me want to take advantage of this amazing city — so many things to do on any given night. In any case, with a million plays and musicals within a mile of my flat, I scoured websites for inspiration. I was debating between Grease or Billy Elliott, when my flatmate walked into my room to chat. After deciding to make it a fun group outing, she suggested Jersey Boys. I had heard good things about the production, but I didn’t actually know what it was about until I clicked on the hyperlink. How could I not have known this?! It’s about Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons?! Brilliant! Needless to say, as soon as I found out the premise of the musical, I was in. My flatmate, her cousin from home and I headed to the Prince Edward Theatre to catch the 730P showing. Note to students: Best seats available for 25 pounds an hour before the show — if you don’t mind waiting, there are some serious deals to be had!

The musical was awesome! It was like being at a Four Seasons concert but with background info. I only wish my parents were in town to see it — they would have loved it. I’m sure the play particularly resonates with the Baby Boomers: the music of the 60s & early 70s that magically takes you back to the American Bandstand era. We left the Prince Edward Theatre humming ‘Oh what a night!’ and ‘Sherry’… after all these years, those songs are still catchy!

After our theatre experience, we headed to the beloved White Hart pub across from our flat to have a drink and hang out with some friends. Side note: this ridiculous plate of nachos made its way in front of us; a little bit of California. Nachos with Swiss? A very British thing to do!

Even after heading home and sleeping off Jersey Boys, I woke up humming the music. Guaranteed it’ll be in my head for the next few weeks! I was reallllly hoping to find tickets to a showing in California for my dad for Father’s Day, but it’s not playing in San Francisco… so sad. I guess I’ll just have to send the soundtrack! Wanna hear some of their music? Check out this jukebox.

Check out a clip from the London production (and one of my most favorite Four Seasons songs!)
