It’s a special day in California!

It’s June 20th. The one day of the year that I seriously, seriously wish I could be transported back to California, even if just for the day. Not only is it my little sister’s 20th birthday, but it’s also Father’s Day!! Missing both makes me so sad! As much as I wish that I could be with them today, I am beyond grateful that I was able to spend nearly two weeks with them traveling around Europe just a few short months ago. We had such an amazing time and it was so nice to be reunited with them, even for a short time.

First off:

Happy 20th Birthday

to my baby sister!

If you’re reading this (which I assume that you are), I can’t believe that you’re 20 today! Perhaps it’s because I still remember you as the baby that I threw against the wall, as the 4 year old that used to jump on the trampoline with me in nanu and nana’s backyard, and as the 6 year old that I shared a birthday with at King’s Skate (with an Aladdin theme if my memory serves). Time seriously flies… when did 20 years pass? You’re an adult now. An inspiring one at that. Despite our differences, you’re the best (Asian) sister I could ever ask for. You’re supportive yet honest, and you’re always there for me when I need you. You’re my best friend in the world and I can’t imagine living life with you in it! I remember being three years old (before mom was pregnant with you), walking up and down the halls of our house, praying that mom would give me a baby sister. I was ecstatic when I found out mom was pregnant with you and I can honestly say it was the best gift ever! Life without a sister, albeit a pain in the ass one, would be so boring. I love you to the moon and back! You’ve become such an awesome woman and I’m so happy that I get to be here to see where you go in life! I wish I could be with you so we could celebrate like we did last year!

Secondly, to the best dad in the world:

Happy Father’s Day!

I’m so sad I can’t be with you on Father’s Day, but suffice it to say you’re the best father in the world. I feel so incredibly lucky to have such a supportive, loving dad who is always there to push me, encourage me and comfort me. You have been such an inspiration to me as a father, a husband and a human being. I will never forget our SoCal trips while looking at colleges, our trip to England to look at grad schools, you being there for me each and every time I either a) got in a car accident, b) locked my keys in the car, or c) got a flat tire/let my engine overheat/got my car blown up at Tyler’s, etc. You’re the best man I have ever known (not an exaggeration) and I can only hope that there are more men like you out there in the world somewhere. The world would be infinitely better if there were more people like you!
