To say that I’ve been a bad blogger is probably an understatement. I’ve been so caught up with miscellaneous PhD fun (read: research proposal, writing samples, etc.) and work, that I’ve neglected my poor blog. Now that the weekend is here, though, it’s time for the fun to start! I (finally) packed everything up and am heading to San Francisco for the weekend before departing for London tomorrow evening. Before becoming a regular traveler during this past year, I was the kind of person that packed for trips a week in advance. I (quite literally) made a check list, lest I forget my toothpaste or a particular pair of shoes. How times have changed…
Despite heading to the UK for ten days, I didn’t even start packing until last night. I’ve learned a valuable lesson: I’m not going to an under-resourced, third world community — I’m going to London. If I forget my toothpaste, I can buy it at Boots for about 89p. Another key lesson? If I’m going for ten days, I don’t need 15 different tops. The reality is that I end up re-wearing my favorite tops and over packing just leaves with an extra heavy suitcase to carry up the steps of the tube station.
So, my iPhone is loaded with a ridiculous number of podcasts from the Middle East Institute (just finished listening to a great one by Avraham B. Yehoshua on defining ‘Jew’, ‘Zionist’ and ‘Israeli’ — quite enlightening), I have my newly purchased book, What is the What? in tow, and I’m sitting right behind one of my best friends, ADR, on my flight to London. I definitely think that entertainment is something I will not be short of during the ten-plus hour flight! Definitely excited for graduation in less than a week and even more excited to be reunited with some of my most favorite people in the world!
36 hours until take off!
xoxo,
