August Monday Madness
After the madness that was Scilly Cay on Sunday, we woke up Monday morning ready to grab breakfast and make our way down to the August Monday celebrations. After fueling at Straw Hat, we loaded up some drinks, towels and other beach necessities and headed down to the waterfront to join the boys for August Monday.

The celebrations stretch down the beach with a main stage for the bands and a number of little independently-run BBQ joints and drink stops surrounding the area. Using the boat as a home base of sorts, we topped up our drinks on board and ran around to enjoy some epic people-watching. Seemingly everyone is out and about on August Monday, including visitors from St. Maarten and other neighboring islands. People tie their boats up and join in on the celebrations, jumping from boat to sand to the ocean to cool off.

Our tie-dyed tanks were in full-effect (as was A.’s rather epic martini-shaped chest hair) and, admittedly, looked pretty bad a*s. After scouring the scene I (somewhat unilaterally) decided that mesh – neon or otherwise – might be perfect for next year’s getup. If you’ve ever seen mesh outfits (e.g. shirts, dresses, pants) sold in stores and wondered who would buy — nay, wear — such catastrophic clothing, my advice is to look to Caribbean festivals. I have never in my life seen so much mesh on display.
…Potential outfits for next year? I think yes!

We spent the entire day partaking in the festivities, hopping around to local music, eating some deliciously authentic Caribbean fare and supporting Mount Gay Rum. Somehow all members of our band of merry men were still conscious and functioning around 10P when we decided to load up the car and head back to the resort. All in all, an incredibly successful and fun day!
