Goodie bags – in honor of the birthday boy!
As fate would have it, Boat Shoes’ birthday fell on the most anticipated holiday of the year, Bay to Breakers. With friends coming into town for the weekend, we decided to celebrate his birthday on Friday evening at the Great Eastern Restaurant in Chinatown.

The venue actually ended up being perfect for the 35 people we had in tow. We arrived a little early to set out some homemade party favors and then got started with our Chinese feast. I was able to snag custom fortune cookies for the goodie bags from a local spot in SF, Mee Mee Bakery. I was debating a bit beforehand, but ended up being pretty thrilled with the way they turned out. For anyone in search of something similar, I would definitely recommend this spot. Who doesn’t love party favors, after all?

Let the Chinese feast commence!
After finishing dinner, the staff at the Great Eastern (who were incredibly accommodating and helpful) brought out the ‘birthday cake’ I brought. Seeing as how Boat Shoes’ isn’t the hugest fan of cake, I brought in a mini key lime tart to celebrate. I put the candles in the bag (a “2″ and a “7″) and explained that he was going to be 27, not 72. I couldn’t help but giggle a little when the candles came out looking like this:

After dinner, we moved on to North Beach with a stop at Amante, Grant & Green and a final run in at Maggie McGarry’s. Naturally, with a crew of gentlemen in tow, we had to make a late night run to Buster’s for some cheese steaks (veggie burger for moi), before getting home and calling it a night.
All in all, it was an amazingly fun evening and a great way to celebrate Boat Shoes’ birthday! So many friends, so much fun and definitely some memories. Hopefully he agrees!
