Happy birthday to my 87 year old BFF!

Lord, I have been slacking. Apologies go out to every person that reads this occasionally, hoping for some bit of juicy travel news or some new photos. As of late, I’ve become more heavily involved with a Bay Area-based organization, and have been spending my once-free time editing, researching and generally being busy. I’ll try to make sure the gap isn’t quite so apparent next time though.

Birthday girl!

So, since I last chatted with y’all, we’ve been to Tahoe for Labor Day (fun, warm & relaxing), I’ve planned a surprise getaway in October (shhh!), and I recently took a surprise jaunt to Sacramento to visit my grandma for her 87th birthday!

We had planned a pretty awesome soiree in Lake Tahoe to surprise her for her big day, but things got a bit out of sorts leading up to the weekend. I couldn’t let her birthday pass without a proper celebration, though, so I spent Friday evening with her and the family, having dinner and reminiscing. My grandma continues to amaze me as she gets older. I don’t think I’ve fully accepted the fact that she’s nearly ninety, but she’s so healthy and vivacious still that I just find the thought more impressive than anything.

For dinner, I made reservations at Lucca in downtown Sacramento. I wanted to find a place that had great outdoor seating, a good (but reasonable) menu, with a fun atmosphere. After digging through my memory and checking out Yelp for inspiration, Lucca was my top choice. Overall, it was a great experience and my grandma seemed thrilled with getting dressed up and celebrating her birthday. Can’t beat that!

If this is what 87 looks like, cheers to that!

I left fairly early on Saturday morning, but had enough time to say hello and surprise her, which was perfect. We also had time to chat about an upcoming adventure that I have planned for Boat Shoe Boy and myself. He’s not fully looped in to what’s going down, but we’ll be headed out of the city for the first weekend of October enjoying a little quality time with good food & wine! Stay tuned.

xoxo from SF,
